Jonathan Tarr

Jonathan is a multidisciplinary chemist with over 30 years of experience in the food/beverage, packaging, nutraceutical, functional foods, cannabis, fresh-pressed juice, clinical chemistry, and overlapping industries.


His expertise includes innovation, troubleshooting, product development, competitive analysis, feasibility studies, regulatory considerations, materials compatibility (for ingredients and packaging), and almost any type of chemical analysis.


He is adept at finding and vetting ingredients and their suppliers. "When creating a new formulation, always use the purest and most stable ingredients until after the pilot run. Then, less expensive alternatives can be examined." This method minimizes effects from impurities during the stability testing phase.


He enjoys the most challenging projects, yet is happy working out the simple things. Over the years he has worked for one of the largest beverage companies as a Project Chemist, multiple startups, environmental consulting labs, one of the largest instrument companies, and a mid-sized nutraceutical company before becoming an independent consultant in 2015. He studied Chemistry at the University of Florida and Emory University.


Jonathan is an avid fisherman, explorer, and comedian. He tries to bring enjoyment and positivity to any project. He is married (25 years) and has two children: Ben who has a degree in Finance, and Sarah, who has an MPH in Epidemiology.
